RemitPlus™ is a project with the overall goal of improving livelihoods in Africa by using remittances and migrant capital to promote rural and enterprise development through improvements in the performance of new and existing businesses.
The project was launched in 2009 and is being piloted in Sierra Leone. After project evaluation in 2011, the scheme will be replicated in other African countries. (RemitPlus™ is currently seeking partners for project replication).
RemitPlus™ was developed by AFFORD (a diaspora development charity with offices in the UK and Sierra Leone) and is being implemented in partnership with FADUGU (Sierra Leone’s first online Money Transfer Operator) and FinanceSalone (Sierra Leone’s largest Micro Finance Institution). The project is co-funded by IFAD (a specialised agency of the United Nations) through it’s ‘Financing Facility for Remittances’ scheme. RemitPlus™ facilitates practical and professional linkage between remittances and:
- Better financial literacy
